Here are some interesting facts about the "famous" Tintype Photo of Billy the Kid:
The tintype photo of Billy became known as the "Upham Tintype".
The reason for this "title" is due to the fact
Dan Dedrick officially gifted this metal photograph to his nephew
Frank L. Upham.
Frank kept this photo safe and secure in Weaverville, California for several decades, where he lived.
In 1986, Frank Upham's heirs loaned it to the Lincoln County Heritage Trust museum in New Mexico.
A worker at the museum
scratched the photo while attempting to clean it.
After this unfortunate incident occurred, the family took the photo back from the museum.
In June 2011, they cosigned it to an auction, where billionaire William Koch purchased it for $2.3 million dollars.
